Personal bankruptcies in Slovakia are decreasing, but men continue to be more affected than women. This is revealed by an analysis by the CRIF – Slovak Credit Bureau (CRIF SK), according to which 688 bankruptcies were registered in August 2024, 20% less than the 864 recorded in the same month in 2023. This figure represents the third lowest of the year, following January and March.
Of the 688 debtors, 428 were men, accounting for 62% of the total, while 260 were women. Most of the bankrupt individuals are in the 30-39 age group. Only 3% of debtors have a university education, while the remaining 97% have either primary or secondary education. A concerning increase is seen in the percentage of bankruptcies among homeless people, who represent 14% of the total.
The bankrupt group also includes 9 married couples and 22 individuals with family ties. The vast majority of debtors, 680 people, opted for bankruptcy proceedings, while the remaining 2% chose a repayment plan. Of the total bankruptcies, 629 involve private assets, and 59 involve business assets.
